Some Words of Advice From Dr. Hannibal Lecter

“How do we begin to covet, Clarice?” asked Hannibal Lecter.

When Jodie Foster was unable to come to the right conclusion, Lecter told her:

“We begin by coveting what we see every day.”

Now while we may not be on the look out for a serial killer who’s making himself a lady-suit, the information is not as useless as you might think. Coveting, or desiring, is just one of the many emotions that starts at home. Most of the tasks we do or emotions we control best are ones we practice with in our spare time.

So how do we begin to Discover? Well, clearly, you can’t discover what you already know- but what you can do is hone your skills of discovery around the house: notice who’s sneakers it was that made that mud print on the floor, deduce what was for dinner by the dirty pots in the sink, use your mind to find the answers to the simple, everyday questions and, who knows, the next thing you might figure out is who has the senator’s daughter.
